Happy 3:16 day! Hit stunners, drink beers, and remember when it all started.
On the 226th episode of Monday Night Raw, back on September 22, 1997, we got the start of one of the greatest rivalries in all of sports entertainment. This was the first ever Raw from Madison Square Garden, so the air was electric and there was definitely a feel from the beginning that this show was going to be huge. And they did not disappoint.
From a falls count anywhere match between Cactus Jack and Hunter Hearst Helmsley to the brawl that ensued between the Hart Foundation and multiple superstars, this Raw was historic. Adding to the history of that night, we got the first episode in the feud between Stone Cold Steve Austin and Vince McMahon.
After vacating his title due to injury, Stone Cold showed up at Raw and attacked Owen Hart. He was promptly interrupted by New York City’s finest. Vince did not want to see Austin arrested, so he tried to interject and talk some sense to him. What ensued was Vince getting hit by a Stunner and Stone Cold being walked out by the police in handcuffs.
The beginning of an era. Definitely worth the watch.
