Riott in Green Bay
Smackdown Live, tonight from Green Bay, kicks off with an interview between Charlotte Flair and Ruby Riott. Riott, who gives us a bit of a history lesson on the accolades of Charlotte, provided decent mic work and some much-needed character development, before ultimately being interrupted by Bobby Roode, Charlotte’s Mixed Match Challenge partner. Roode would head to the Announce Table for commentary on the upcoming match.
Roode, Orton, Mahal
Randy Orton and Jinder Mahal spar a decent match, ultimately ending with a 3 count against Orton, but not before Sanil Singh gets flipped onto (and mostly over) the announce table. Every time a Singh brother goes flying complements of Orton, it always appears a surprise how easily the Sings soar. Distraction from Roode allowed Mahal to pick up the pin.
Backstage
Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens discuss their plans for Fastlane, with Zayn pledging to help KO win the Six-Pack Challenge at any cost, even taking a pin for him. Nothing new between these two best friends, as it still seems either one could turn on the other at any moment.
Knee to Face
Shinsuke Nakamura is interrupted by Rusev during an interview with Dasha. Rusev wants a match at Fastlane, avenging Aiden English and what Nakamura did to him last week. The gem here, was that Nakamura can apparently sing, and sounds a lot like English. He can’t speak English, but he can sing English…
#BeckyWillBeatCarmella
Becky challenged Carmella to a match, over Twitter, in the locker room last week. Setup aside, this match was quick paced and physical and Carmella looked strong, even if the crowd was behind Becky Lynch, who won via submission with a Disarmer. Natalya and Naomi bickered in the locker room about the results of the match, and set up a tag match for Fastlane – Nattie and Carmella vs Naomi and Becky.
Phenomenal Showoff and Showdown
AJ Styles cuts his promo, mostly in complement of Cena and the upcoming Six-Pack Challenge, before being interrupted by Dolph Ziggler. Ziggler continues to tell the tale of how the fans disrespect him and warned Styles that they’ll turn on him too if and when he loses his belt. In return, Styles expedites their scheduled match. After a good showing, KO and Zayn interfere, attacking both Styles and Ziggler, resulting in Commissioner Shane McMahon calling out Baron Corbin and promoting a Fatal Five Way match. Add John Cena and there’d be no reason to fight in a few days at Fastlane. Sami Zayn Helluva Kicks KO for the pin. Interesting twist from what Zayn said earlier. Will this repeat Sunday?
A big thank you to our guest contributor, Chris Bell, for this recap.
