The Best

Rey and Andrade

If you didn’t see it, you need to see it!  It has been a long time since a match has so enthralled me that you literally could not look away.  I have not been impressed with Andrade as of late.  His wrestling style is just fine, but I felt his story was weak and his bookings were poor.  My tune has changed.  This match was so physical with so many near falls, at times I was on my feet.  They gave these men a good 20+ minute match on a 2-hour show and they did not disappoint.  If they announce this match-up again in any capacity, I will be hooked.

Becky Lynch

Becky Lynch is the ****ing man!  She is so on right now, and it is exciting to see her embracing the persona and carrying that line.  Smackdown Live may be the house that AJ Styles built, but it is becoming the house that Becky Lynch maintains.

Call-ups have arrived

Welcome to the main roster Heavy Machinery and Nikki Cross!  Both newbies are equally crazy and it’s a good change to see on RawSmackdown Live already has so much going for it, but Heavy Machinery starting the show making an interesting protein smoothie was a good segment.  Setting them next to The New Day was a good choice too.  I’ll be happy to see both these acts going forward.

Braun is out; Finn is in

That’s right.  Whether he’s cleared to compete or not, Braun Strowman is out of the Universal Championship match and Finn Balor is in.  Raw began with Strowman attacking a provoking Baron Corbin, and subsequently ruining Mr. McMahon’s limo (video clip).  Because of his actions, Braun’s championship opportunity has been stripped and a hefty fine was doled out.  After an exciting fatal four-way match to end the show, Finn Balor will be taking his place.

The worst – or maybe just not so good

Ronda, Ronda, Ronda

I may be alone in my thoughts here, but I do not like the direction of the Sasha and Ronda “feud.”  It’s as weak as the 2-day fight between Sasha and Bayley, but this is almost worse.  Sasha has always been a tough competitor, and they will put on an exciting match.  But I can just never believe what Ronda says.  She thinks that beating Sasha will be her most credible match?  What about Nikki Bella?  What about Nia Jax?  What about the McMahons?!  So, sure, she’s just trying to get some heat before the pay-per-view.  But I really wish she’d stop saying things like, “you misheard me.”  No, Ronda, that’s exactly what you said, and you can’t back it up.

Finn Balor’s second win of the night

Yes, yes, I know.  Finn Balor is a very exciting fighter.  The demon is super cool, and his style is fast paced.  But Finn Balor, out of all the other men in the fatal four-way, is facing Brock Lesnar at Royal Rumble?  I know WWE’s new thing is to give the people what they want, but can we keep it within reason.  Brock Lesnar should destroy Finn Balor.  He beat Braun Strowman in what, 3 minutes?  And just because Finn never technically “lost” the Universal Championship, I don’t think this is the way he should get it.  Now, John Cena on the other hand, he would make the title relevant again.

Other notable points:

  • Elias playing the soundtrack for Braun to beat up Baron Corbin
  • The IC Title is now in Bobby Lashley’s hands – another exciting match that rivals Rey and Andrade for match of the week, plus I love a title change on TV
  • Alexa Bliss announces the first ever Women’s Tag-Team Champions will be decided in an elimination chamber match at Elimination Chamber in February
  • Samoa Joe had the move of the week on Mustafa Ali
