It has been more than a year (I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry) since I’ve sat down to write up a post! I will cover this quickly to say it has been a crazy year, but I hope to be back with more regular postings.
In the past year, I’ve watched less wrestling than I used to. I could say that is because my husband and I are busy with our first baby, but it also has a lot to do with being generally less interested in the wrestling product over the past year. But we did sit down and watch The Royal Rumble last week, and I wanted to make a short post on some likes and a general idea that seems to have been lost recently.
Royal Rumble 2023 – Likes
To start, I was very happy to see the range of talent that was showcased in this years Royal Rumble match. I’m never a huge fan of filled the 30-man group with legacy wrestlers to come in for a few seconds just to get eliminated, but for entertainment purposes it worked well. I also really enjoyed the press conference after the event. The Q&A was very well done and more entertaining than just a “talk-show” type of wrap-up.
This is The Royal Rumble, right?
Now on to a general thought and what you could call my dislike of the event. When we are talking about The Royal Rumble, or Money in the Bank, it is generally accepted that the main-event match will be the name-sake match. And I believe that this should also be the men’s version of the match. I was very disappointed to see that WWE decided to go with Roman Reigns as their main-event match rather than the men’s Royal Rumble match.
They gave us a consolation by making it first (cause if you’re not last, best to be first), but in my opinion, as someone who did not care to see Roman Reigns fight in another main-event (no matter how much I like Kevin Owens), after the opening Royal Rumble, I could’ve turned the show off completely. We’re done; the name-sake match is over, so moving on. I’ll catch the rest of the results of the other matched on RAW if I want.
A quick post on just a few thoughts. What do you think?
