An ode to what used to be my favorite pay-per-view event

Times are a-changing. I get it. I’m not going to sit back and pretend that this time of coronavirus hasn’t changed the world over. All I’d like to say in this regard is that WWE could and should do so much more with the fact that they cannot have a live audience, and still, they don’t.

This past weekend’s Money in the Bank pay-per-view was no exception. Initially, the stipulation of the MITB matches being done through headquarters culminating to obtaining the briefcase on the roof was a great setup. But the execution was lack-luster.

I’m not going to touch on the entire pay-per-view, because they don’t feel like pay-per-views anymore. The entire feel, which is no one’s fault, is that nothing is happening. Taking nothing away from the athletes or their wrestling, without the pomp, the showcase is not the same.

What I do want to touch on was the attempt to make this match different when it ended up being the same. The women’s and men’s MITB matches were simultaneous. Maybe they thought that no one would watch two of the same match one right after the other, but after watching both, I think they should’ve just had both on the roof and not gone through all of headquarters. Going around arenas and other such matches just makes us realize that places are EMPTY! So simultaneous and short matches is what we get. After a WrestleMania that was too big for one night, this pay-per-view barely touched 2.5 hours. That, to me, was the surprise of the night.

Money in the Bank, as I’ve said before, is one of my favorite pay-per-view events. We get the combination of a ladder match and an almost guaranteed title change once the winner is crowned. I would’ve liked a lot more on the roof with the ladders!
