A fitting end and an exciting beginning
With 2018 coming to a close, we had to gear up for a very exciting 2019. With the inclusion of new titles (Women’s Tag Team Titles) and the call-up/inclusion of new superstars, Raw and Smackdown Live could be becoming must-see TV again. Let’s go through some of the high points of Raw and Smackdown from this week.
A change for Seth Rollins
As the resident babyface, Seth Rollins has been maintaining a good-guy persona. But, after Triple H called him out on Monday night, it looks like Seth is working to make a change. Lucky for us that change won’t be from face to heel. Instead, it will be from playing by the rules to letting nothing stand in his way. Not Dean Ambrose, not Triple H, and not Brock Lesnar.
Drew and Dolph – not quite over?
Starting the show with a steel cage match definitely gets people talking. And Dolph got some traction at times, but have you seen Drew McIntyre? The man is an animal. And he let it be known that he is out for blood. Dolph didn’t stand a chance, and Drew wanted to make sure he didn’t stand at all. It’ll be exciting to see who gets to face the beast: Drew or Seth.
A moment of Bliss
Alexa Bliss announced that she will be starting her own talk show next week. Her first guest: Ronda Rousey. Not really excited for that one. I mean, I’m sure Alexa will do a good job, but I don’t think Ronda is worth interviewing right now.
Apollo Crews gets a push
Thanks to Shane McMahon, a “fresh start” battle royal was held to determine an opponent for Dean Ambrose for the IC title. The winner was Apollo Crews. So good for Crews to get a little push since he’s been falling to the low-mid card area. And the match was good, but Dean finished on top, which we expected.
WWE Championship match – Fatal 5-way
This was an exciting match. When you’ve got AJ Styles, Rey Mysterio, Randy Orton, Samoa Joe, and newcomer Mustafa Ali, you get grappling to high flying. And we got it all. Mustafa Ali is very exciting to watch, and he really held his own with the other 4. Go back and watch this one to see the full culmination, especially all the near falls. But as expected, AJ Styles wins, thankfully continuing his feud with the “new” Daniel Bryan. Let’s see where the “new” AJ Styles lands.
There’s a new man in town
The inclusion of John Cena on Smackdown Live always adds a level of must-watch to the programming. And, I don’t know about you, but I did not expect Becky Lynch to answer his challenge call. But I thought it was quite fitting. She did an amazing job putting him in place with her mic skills and the mixed match tag was entertaining as well. Safe to say that John Cena has been replaced; the man is Becky Lynch.
Besides these high points, we got some continuation of story with Rusev and Shinsuke. We find out that Triple H wants Asuka’s input for her next opponent. And the story between Naomi and Mandy Rose is nicely picking up steam. Also, Miz and Shane starts discussing matching wardrobes. Can’t wait to see those two in the ring together.
