It has been a crazy couple of weeks for me.  After traveling, being under the weather, and then trying to get back into the swing of things, things are finally starting to settle in.  With that said, I wanted to do a brief overview of what I thought were some high points and low points from this week for Raw and Smackdown Live.

Raw

As the flagship show, we will start with Raw.  This week, I felt that Raw left a lot to be desired.  Roman Reigns got a decent reaction from the crowd as he entered the arena, but if we’re setting up for another “Roman v. The Authority” story line, I’m just not buying it.  After all, the last time we tried to do that was the beginning of this downturn for Roman.  Unfortunately, there are a lot more misses this week than any hits.

Hits…:

  • Braun Strowman accepts a piece of fruit from Stephanie McMahon
  • The first match of the night dominating the first hour between Roman and Kevin Owens and later including Jinder Mahal and Seth Rollins was a great way to start but a hard to follow match

Misses

  • Throwing everything at Roman Reigns to try to get him over – JinderMahal, Kevin Owens, and then bringing Seth Rollins in to save Roman and still nothing is working
  • Sami Zayn “exposing” Bobby Lashley
    • I love Sami Zayn, and I think his story telling is on another level, but the exposing of Bobby Lashley by inviting out Lashley’s “sisters” (men dressed as women), making Bobby out to be a bully did not work for me and just got me asking, “for what purpose?”

So, overall, Raw had very little going for it.  The matches were lackluster, the story lines fell flat, and it made it very difficult to watch the 3-hour format.  And what was the redeeming quality for Raw?  That Smackdown Live is a mere 21 hours away to get the taste out of our mouths.

Smackdown Live

Smackdown Live was a total hit, so I’m not going to break it down into separate hits and misses, because, I didn’t think there were any misses.  Smackdown presented with true purpose and true entertainment with still some way to go before Money in the Bank.

From the introduction with the Miz’s intensity counterbalanced with the comical fun nature of the New Day to the WrestleMania caliber match put on between Jeff Hardy and Daniel Bryan, Smackdown hit a home run Tuesday night.  We got two more qualifiers for the Women’s Money in the Bank ladder match with Lana and Naomi and one step closer to finding out if Daniel Bryan will start his Cinderella story all over again.  And last, but certainly not least, Smackdown let us know what the WWE Championship match stipulation will be: last man standing.

For those of us who’ve never seen one, and the only ones I’ve been able to see have all included Braun Strowman, so I’m not sure I knew that’s what it was, a last man standing match is pretty much exactly what it says.  The wrestlers fight until one literally can no longer stand and cannot answer the referee’s ten count.  It will be exciting to see these two get a match that is fitting of their talents.
